MANDOCELLO
A heritage of fine archtop lutherie
Crafted in the great tradition of classic archtop construction, our mandocello features a hand-carved soundboard and backplate, shaped from the finest European spruce and maple. This timeless combination, reminiscent of the great Italian masters, delivers both visual elegance and tonal excellence.
A unique, resonant register
As the deepest member of the mandolin family, the mandocello shares much of the cello's expressive range. Tuned in fifths (C2–G2–D3–A3), it produces a powerful low register, rich overtones, and remarkable sustain — a voice that can carry melodies, harmonic textures, or bass lines with equal authority.
Comfort and expressiveness
Despite its large tonal presence, our mandocello offers great playing comfort thanks to a thin neck and shorter scale length. Its eight strings, arranged in four double courses, create a dense, enveloping texture that makes every note sing with character.
Versatile and inspiring
Traditionally used in mandolin orchestras as the low voice — much like the cello in a string quartet — the mandocello today finds its place in a wide variety of genres: classical, Celtic, folk, bluegrass, contemporary music, and even jazz. It brings an unusual yet captivating depth to any musical project.
Refined finishes and customization
Every detail is designed to enhance both sound and aesthetics: a hand-carved wooden bridge, bone nut, custom wooden pickguard, and a water-based lacquer finish that offers an antique touch without compromising resonance. Many custom options are available — from inlays to ornamental details and rare woods — to create a truly personal instrument.
